About the Course

Want to use generative AI tools but not sure where to start? Google Prompting Essentials teaches you how to give clear and specific instructions to generative AI - known as prompting. In 5 easy steps, you'll learn how to prompt effectively and unlock more of AI’s benefits. Through hands-on exercises and real-world examples, you’ll learn how to use AI to: - Save time: Craft emails, brainstorm with ease, build tables and trackers, and summarize lengthy documents. - Uncover and share powerful insights: Identify patterns in data, create compelling data visualizations, and even rehearse presentations. - Tackle complex projects: Transform abstract ideas into actionable steps, use AI to role-play conversations, and get expert feedback. - Use AI responsibly: Evaluate your outputs for bias and errors, and iterate to get more helpful results. Taught by AI experts at Google, this self-paced course can be completed in under 10 hours, requires no prior experience, and is applicable across industries. Throughout the course, you’ll build a library of reusable prompts, so the next time that you need a little help from AI, you’re not prompting from scratch. And, you’ll earn a certificate from Google to share with your network and employer....

This course covered the basics of effectively using generative AI tools, focusing on creating clear, specific prompts to get the best results. It also highlighted key concepts like prompt chaining, multimodal prompting, and mitigating bias in AI outputs. The importance of evaluating for accuracy, relevance, and tone was emphasized, along with how AI can be used to streamline tasks like writing, analyzing data, and personalizing communication.

It is absolutely for beginners who has zero experience in using gpt....as an intermediate I wanted specific instructions to improve my prompting skills so this wasn't the course I thought...but still I learnt a few tips to write prompts...overall it is a nice course for beginners and little useful for intermediates.

1. Too elementary : The context is definitely useful for absolute beginners who have not a single clue about using generative AI. Before the course, I only had vague concepts such as summarising a long passage, drafting email, etc. and I still find this course way too basic. The structure and mix of teaching materials are all good, but I honestly felt I was sitting for a lesson as an elementary school student because of the teaching level. 2. Repetitive : The modules can be a lot more concise - the concepts you learned in the first 2 modules continue to repeat over and over, but simply based on a different scenario, desired need or media. And that's the same for practice assignments (the output is of course different, but it's just using the same concept). I am a keen learner, but lost both interest and patience by the beginning of Module 3 and skimmed through everything because it's all the same. The part about k-value etc. is interesting, but you only get to learn the concept and not real-life practice examples. 3. No access to Gemini for practice : This could be a technical challenge, but it will definitely be helpful if users can have some form of access to try out the Gemini function (as of this day, Gemini is only available if you have Google Workspace account, which is paid) as part of the practice assignments during the course. 4. Low price-for-value : Based on 1. & 2. above, I felt I overpaid and wasted time to go through all the teaching materials. I mean, the brand name Google is definitely attractive, but this makes me doubt the quality of other Google courses and whether they are worth the money - apart from the fact that it may give some endorsement to your resume. There are online courses out there less than half the price of this course but you get to have a much more comprehensive training and in-depth, solid technical learning.

This course should be free because it is basically a one-long ad for Google AI services and its integration with other Google office products.
